The people of St John’s Church wished to reinforce their role in the local community both as a church and community centre by selling an existed dilapidated hall and reordering the existing Grade II listed church building to accommodate a variety of uses in a flexible and welcoming manner. The Nave was retained and enhanced with a new organ balcony and collection of sanctuary furniture. The generous north aisle was utilised to accommodate ancillary spaces. The principal entrance was moved to the west elevation to address the much used church yard, with the addition of a new west porch. The design was short listed for the RICS Award in both ‘Community Benefit’ and ‘Building Conservation’ (2010)
