The Grade I listed church was completed in 1676 in the Classical Style of Wren’s City churches. It is known that Wren produced an (unbuilt) design for a lantern on a tower for Walter Chetwynd at this time and the similarities between Wren’s designs for the City churches (1670-1685) and that of the church at Ingestre, designed in 1672, are striking.

The conservation work included extensive repair of the roof structure (while arresting attack by death watch beetle), repairs to stonework, the consolidation and redecoration of the magnificent original decorative plaster ceilings, the provision of level access. The severe loss of structural integrity of the original roof timbers lead to the introducion of an independent roof structure of steelwork bearing onto masonry walls from which the original historic fabric can gain support.

The project received a Commendation in The Georgian Group Architectural Awards 2005.
